Kilkenny Castle
One of the great parts about being in Ireland is learning about its long history. Yesterday, while our son Andrew and his family are still here, we took a 2 hour road trip to see a part of the Island we have not visited - Kilkenny. We toured one of the largest castles still in existence and it was incredible! Much of it has been fully restored as it would have been in the victorian period. When we see a place like this that was originally build over 800 years ago, we begin to understand and appreciate more of the culture here.
I have been memorizing 1 John 2:15-17 (Do not love the world or anything in the world . . .) and have been struck by the fact that our natural tendency is to love the world. Even though castles like the one pictured here is amazing in many ways, it does not compare to our future home. We can surely appreciate the past, but our focus needs to remain on the 'glory that is to come'. How we long to reach our new country for Jesus. Pray that we will remain faithful 'to do the will of the father' here in Ireland.
